Lookee' Here!!!!!!, for all us Abit BH6 MOBO W/100FSB/ PC100 SDRAM owners. Reckon' all we need is the Coppermine Ready Slocket (about $25) and PIII-500e, Retail,(to get the 3 year warr.) to run at 667MHz.!!! Where do we find these??? Lots are listed on pricewatch.com starting at $269. (but are they in stock?) I was able to buy a PIII-500E Retail Box Coppermine from a place on the internet this week. We tried about 10 different sites before we actually found someone that had them in stock. This CPU, for those not familiar with them, the Coppermine runs at 100MHz FSB with 256Kb onboard cache and with the PIII SSE instructions. So what does this mean? Since the cache is onboard the CPU, like the Celeron A, it runs at the full clock speed rather than 1/2 the cpu clock. This makes a tremendous difference in performance, as those of us that are running the Celeron 550's know. The Coppermine performance is much better than the PIII-500 Slot 1. But here's the real bonus. I wrote in the Friday E-mail we send out every week, that there was rumors to the effect that the Coppermine would do some impressive overclocking numbers using above 100MHz FSB. Here's the latest that I can tell you: Out of the box, using our MSI Slot 1 adapters (Coppermine ready) on a Abit BH-6 and Abit VA board (Via Pro 133 Chipset) it has run solid at 667MHz!!!. When we tested it on the BH-6 board I used PC-100 memory, just to see . On the VA board we installed PC-133 memory since the Via chipset fully supports it. Again....667MHz with NO glitches. What do you think. Maybe Intel has held something in reserve for this one? From Bill's News Group. Meanwhile, back to Browsin' Regards, /jw
