>> My question is, is there a company that is committed to QCOM and CDMA that offers the same rate plan? I'd like to give my $100 per month to them. Especially if it comes with added features and services, like stock quotes or news tickers, or any other geegaw that can pass the time at airports that don't have an Admiral's Club.

Your $100/mo. will buy you 1,000 minutes/mo. anytime from Sprint, with no LD charges. Coverage is still spotty outside of major cities, but the dual mode Thin Phone is available.

What about the recent joint venture between Airtouch and BAM? I seem to remember them setting up a similar plan as AT&T, with nationwide coverage and no roaming fees....

buck,

<< is there a company that is committed to QCOM and CDMA that offers the same rate plan? >>

For those that live in the northeast and travel nationwide you simply can not beat the coverage afforded by Bell Atlantic Mobile's DigitalChoice SingleRate USA plan (dual mode AMPS/CDMA at 800 MHz). EXCEPTIONAL coverage nationwide due to roaming agreements with the other B carrier RBOCs. Its drawback is that it costs $159/mo (1600 minutes) with no lower tiers yet available. There are however no charges for LD or roaming nationwide. I have used it since its inception but only use 600 to 800 minutes per month.

For those that live in the northeast and primarily travel there BAM offers some great tiered DigitalChoice SingleRate East plans ranging from $39.99/mo (200 minutes) to $99.99 for 1200 minutes. There are no charges for LD or roaming in BAM's coverage area.

And ... Oh yes ... my BAM phone is a Qualcomm QCP800 (old & heavy but a great phone) and BAM's Web Phone is the QCP860.

I suspect that the VOD, GTE, AT BAM alliance will bring about the similar nationwide rate plans (probably with appropriate tiers), with the same great coverage, and will be available through whichever primary provider services your area.
