It's simple my good man. A new 3G chip means further recognition of 3G standard as the only wireless bandwidth capable
of multi-media data processing.

For the purposes of this board, the significance lies in the belief that QCOM is owed royalties on anything that has a CDMA
tag. This is grossly inaccurate. In reference to IS95, QCOM's dominance is without question. The point here is that their
technology can not keep up with the demands of the consumers.

QCOM can make no claims on backbone 3G IPR and can therefore collect no royalties unless specific QCOM patents are
utilized, which is not necessary. QCOM is merely a vendor of 3G and not a proprietary holder of their core IPR. This is the
point that is completely lost on the QCOM cult.

there are no 30 kHz channels. there are 64 overlapping 1.2288 Mhz wide channels, of
which about 40-48 of these are used at any one time.

Let us look at it this way ;-)
Introducing one CDMA channel in an analog system-

Guard band 9 AMPS Channels, CDMA Carrier Band 41 AMPS Channels, Guard Band 9 AMPS Channels. AMPS channels are -guess what- 30 kHz wide. By golly, is that what the 41 channels(30 kHz wide)=1.23 Mhz means? Add the 2 guard bands gives a total of 1.77 MHz for the first CDMA Channel?
Add one more CDMA Channel using the same guard bands, use another 1.23MHz(once again those pesky 41 30kHz analog channels). Oh well, I did find it somewhat difficult to follow.
