I thought they were referring to memory management errors -- i.e. software failures -- rather than hardware memory errors. So few PC's implement parity, I don't know how you'd even recognize a hardware memory error.

Applications software is never supposed to bring down the O/S. If
it does, even once, you have a bad O/S.
