Mr. Thomas Kennedy reports
Further to the company's news release in Stockwatch Jan. 17, 2000, Rock Resources has completed a detailed surface exploration program in preparation for the 3,000-metre to 4,000-metre Millennium Discovery core drilling program which commenced Monday, Feb. 14. The surface program consisted of detailed geological mapping, soil and rock geochemistry and completion of magnetic and induced polarization (IP) surveys. All of this work supports the current deposit models and provides targets for the location of drill holes.
At Mount Tacho (Rock's primary porphyry copper-gold target at 3,000-metre elevation) geologists have outlined a four-square-kilometre hydrothermal system encircled by a quartz-pyrite-sericite halo over two kilometres in in diameter. Sheeted tourmaline breccias, extensive silicic, phyllic, potassic and argillic alteration of the overlying volcanic rocks all provide evidence of the intensity of this system. A total of 16 leakage copper showings demonstrate that the underlying porphyry is copper bearing. The IP shows an anomalous response on the inside flanks of the pyrite halo which provides excellent targets for the drill program. Preliminary gold analyses from chalcopyrite bearing veins sampled within the system gave values up to 7,270 parts per billion and 2,079 ppb confirming that the porphyry system is gold bearing.
Cerro Carmen and Cerro Macote (at 1,000-metre elevation) contain numerous small workings from previous mining of high-grade gold-copper bearing veins. These veins occur within a silicified granodiorite. An IP survey over this area has outlined an area of intensive sulphide mineralization within silicified rocks that has been traced for one kilometre along strike. This response, which is up to 500 metres wide, is suggestive of a sulphide-bearing quartz stockwork zone. Because of the excellent copper and gold mineralization in the old mine workings, Rock Resources' geological team anticipates that this sulphide mineralization will contain significant copper and gold values.
Rock Resources' copper-gold project is in Region IV, Coquimbo, Chile, 150 kilometres north of Chile's capital, Santiago. The Coiron property-area is along a 70-kilometre northeasterly linear trend. That trend contains the El Bronce epigenetic gold deposit to the southwest, several variably explored alteration and breecia zones near the centre and the Los Pelambres (3.3-billion-tonne) and El Pachon (0.86-billion-tonne) deposits 31 kilometres northeast of the Coiron property. Anaconda Chile's Los Pelambres open pit copper mine (cost $1.4-billion (U.S.)) commenced production in January, 2000. The Los Pelambres project demonstrates the current economic viability of world-class copper deposits in Chile.
Rock Resources' geological evidence to date demonstrates the potential for the discovery of two world-class deposits on the 33-square-kilometre Coiron project.
