Stock Keeping Unit - an individual item for sale in a store. If K-Mart has 10,000 different products in a store there are 10,000 SKU's. A hundred shirts in the same size and style are still only one SKU.

Dennis, a concise definition is....Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) which is a number associated with a product for inventory purposes.

Some retailers have strange ways of describing their products. They may use the manufacturer part number or even a word description so the SKU simplifies the job of identifying the product.
