Options expire the 3rd Friday of the month so with earnings posting on Feb 17 that leaves one day to play no?

{still trying to understand options as a hedge on long term stock holdings)

Earnings speculation --- take two

Open Interest in the 40 Call increased 7085 contracts yesterday. Action this morning indicates someone is shorting the stock against those calls.

The question is, was it the wrong bet!!! They had to pay at least 1 3/16ths for those calls. That means they have to move the stock down to about 37 1/2 to break even.

I don't think so.
