Germany's Mannesmann Has 10 Million Mobile Phone Clients

Dusseldorf, Germany, Feb. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Mannesmann AG,
Germany's largest cellular phone company that is being bought by
Vodafone AirTouch Plc, said its German wireless business won its
10 millionth customer and expects further growth.
``The boom is unbroken -- in one or two years, every second
German will have a mobile phone,' said Juergen von Kuczkowski,
who heads Mannesmann's cellular operations.

Currently 30 percent of all Germans own a cellular phone,
Mannesmann said. The company's German mobile phone unit gained
about half a million new subscribers in the first six weeks of
this year after counting 9.5 million customers at the end of 1999.

The combined Mannesmann-Vodafone will be Europe's biggest
phone business with 29 million customers in 15 countries on the
continent. International Data Corp. estimates there'll be 1
billion mobile phone subscribers worldwide by 2003, up from 427
million last year.
