it bugs me what he said and i'll tell you why :

i believe that self appointed intellectuals determine that we live in a free country and anyone can do anything they want. however, i think that someone who has laboured in a mine for a decade or two has rather limited abilities and prospects to join the new economy. i don't expect a mine to necessarily stay open to accomodate everyone in a town that needs a job, but if there is manipulation to keep the cost of this commodity lower, than these miners have in fact been screwed.

Thanks for the compliment, but it was Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of the great humanistic transcendental minds of America. I suppose his mind wasn't small enough to remain a Minister. He got excommunicated after that Divinity School Address at Harvard.
