`I think Friday's move was tremendously overdone,' said Credit Suisse First Boston analyst Michael Kwatinetz. ``I think it
was a case of people reading too many negative things into the Gartner report.'

The study said one in four corporations deploying large-scale implementation of Windows 2000 would run into problems
as the new system meshes with the a company's existing software.

But CSFB's Kwatinetz said that a closer look at the numbers would reveal that the Gartner report yields figures that
exceed expectations.

``When we went through the report, we found that if the things the Gartner Group said came true, Microsoft would beat
everybody's estimates for Windows 2000,' he said.

He also projected that Microsoft would spend up to $500 million over the next 24 months on an aggressive marketing
campaign.
