Contrary to Scott's opinion, I think that speed is so important that an "upstart" has to publicize its strengths--the user community values useful information. Obviously Novell must stay ahead of Microsoft or will have a very hard time. Fortunately for Novell, Microsoft has an awful lot of battles to fight at once.

The more interest question is the value of Novell's alliance with IBM. IBM will say that Novell is superior and data helps this argument. In the old days IBM was so slow moving that alliances often spelled doom for it's partner which usually got stuck in glue.

The alliance with IBM is a signal to the computer community--get aboard this train. We will know that value of this endorsement and partnership within a few months.
