You are so right. Everyone wants to help someone who cannot help themselves. It is a different matter when the career of choice is living off the public dole. That is a very real reason welfare needs to be controlled at the local level where the awareness of real need is best. The demos want to centralize everything in Washington. What we get is fraud and corruption and too expensive administration, along with featherbedding, and too little gets to those with the real need.
What I believe is that the ones who are accused of non caring are the ones who often care the most. They just are not trying to make economic slaves of people but instead are trying to make them self reliant and proud.
Someone pointed out that you would find it probably impossible to find any program or charitable move made on behalf of the needy by the ACLU or Jesse Jackson groups and their like. They complain but don't take proactive steps they fund to assist. Many businesses, Churches, and other benevolent groups do take those proactive steps to assist the truly needy.
