All good points, and you clearly know what you're doing and have settled on a strategy that's appropriate for you. But Franq keeps yanking my chain about my own marginalia, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to scare the newbies and publicly reassert my conservative LTB&H blowhard bona fides... :0)

PS During the fall Piyush suggested a similar strategy of buying gorillas on margin at the bottom of dips and selling enough to get whole when things recover, and Franq glowered at him for offering such reckless heresy. So I was just trying to get my "safety first" message in before anyone else...

PPS <<I have read and enjoyed many of your posts.>> flattery will get you everywhere...

Masterful post on margin.
I'm slowly getting into using margin the way you have described, rather than the slap dash way I did at first.(I'll never forget my first call to Datek to ask about why my account looked like it did, after I'd bought something on margin. The representative explained it to me and then said "You have a novel approach: most people ask about a technique BEFORE they use it." Before we hung up he said "You WILL ask about shorting before you do it, won't you?"
:o)
