El,
I've been trading COMS like crazy the last few days. I got back in CPQ at $25 and will trade out of it when it moves. I got tired of sitting and watching my money when I can take small trades and actually make money. COMS is a traders delight right now because of the point swings...

Good luck. Hopefully CPQ will start to move off of WIN 2000 news announcements and release....

Compaq to Fulfill Computer Wishes of Greater Bay Area Children

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish
Foundation(R) announced today that, based on a recent internal study, the
second most frequent "wish" request, behind a trip to Disney, is a personal
computer. Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) in Silicon Valley will
fulfill the wishes of Make-A-Wish children by sponsoring computer requests
through December 2000. Compaq's donation is the largest corporate donation
received by the Greater Bay Area Foundation.
This year the foundation will grant close to 300 wishes in the Greater Bay
Area and approximately 85 of those wishes will be computers.
"A computer can do so many things," said Scott, a wishchild whose wish is
to receive a computer. "I am spending a lot of time in the hospital for
treatments and I can play games and plan on making picture albums. It will
also make it a lot easier to do my homework, I can even e-mail it to my
teacher!"
"Wish kids are bright young people who are challenged by physical
ailments. Computers give them a creative outlet and a means to reach out to
others," said Patricia Wilson, Executive Director, Greater Bay Area Make-A-
Wish Foundation(R). "Some of our computer wish kids have created their own
web site and have used it as a way to connect with other kids suffering from
the same illness."
In addition to providing equipment to wish children, Compaq has donated
new computers for the Foundation office in San Francisco. The new systems
will help reduce the cost of developing outreach and marketing/promotional
materials, such as brochures and newsletters, and manage its expanding
operation.
"Every moment is precious for these wish children," said Nancy Kato,
director of Human Resources, Compaq. "If our support can bring them a smile
then we've done our part. And if we help them play, have fun and communicate
with others, then we've made a difference. Our hope is for the computer to be
a 'bridge to the world' that connects these special kids to people, places and
things that enriches their lives and experience."
In August, Compaq will sponsor the Make-A-Wish Bocce Ball Bash Tournament
and Italian BBQ at the University of Santa Clara. The fund-raiser will
attract more than 400 participants from the Bay Area. As one of the event's
title sponsors, Compaq will issue a corporate Bocce Ball challenge to all high
tech companies.
Compaq Computer Corporation, headquartered in Houston, Texas employs more
than 3,000 employees in the Greater Bay Area with skills and capabilities
ranging from products, technology, services, research and development. With
local offices in Fremont, Cupertino, San Jose and Palo Alto, Compaq in Silicon
Valley demonstrates its commitment to Bay Area citizens through support of
non-profit organizations that educate and nurture the community.
The Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation(R) is a charitable non-profit
organization whose purpose is to grant wishes to children diagnosed with
terminal or life-threatening illness. In granting a wish to a child, the
Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation(R) hopes to offer the family a bright
oasis of happiness and normalcy during uncertain times.

El -- <<"Perhaps CPQ could repeat
COMS pattern. El">>
One can hope,, but not likely IMO. The only reason COMS is moving is because they received a pleasant surprise in the USX deal and recd PALM which is being spun off. A classic "parts worth more than the who;e" CPQ has stock in companies but nothing really able to spin,, actually not much at all--
COMS UP 4 11/16 and CPQ DOWN 1,, -- the following may help MSFT (hopefully I can say something good about the porker if so):
Compaq Customers: On the Fast Track

Compaq customers are apparently on a slightly faster migration track to
Windows 2000 adoption than customers of some of its competitors. At least
53% of Compaq customers polled at Comdex/Fall '99 say they plan to migrate
within six months. An additional 36% said they'll migrate within 12
months.
