Tornadoes are hideous, but they do not cut the wide swathe that hurricanes do. Once, while "antiquing" in a small town in the countryside Missouri with her mother, my wife got caught more or less in the path of a tornado. They were having refreshment, and ended up under the table. Luckily, the tornado hit the other side of the street. The sky was an evil, sickly green, and the tornado itself a snaking spout of malevolence. It tore up the one side of the street, and everything else on its path out of town, pretty thoroughly........
