Compaq Enterprise Storage Earns No. 1 Ranking From Leading
Network Storage

Users

HOUSTON, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ),
the leading provider of enterprise storage systems(A), ranked number one for
network storage in a recent survey of leading Fortune 1000 companies as the
vendor most important to storage networks -- beating out the nearest
competition by a margin of nearly two-to-one.

The ITcentrix Storage Network Study found 19 percent of participants named
Compaq "the provider most important to their company's network storage
strategy." The ITcentrix study surveyed 300 companies of more than
1,000 employees to assess market opportunities for storage network solutions.
"This resounding vote of confidence from leading enterprise customers
reaffirms Compaq's leadership in delivering NonStop(TM) eBusiness solutions
for the enterprise," said Howard Elias, Vice President and General Manager of
Compaq's Storage Products Division. "Compaq provides business flexibility,
which enables the IT environment to respond quickly and effectively to changes
that impact a business and present new opportunities. The higher the velocity
with which an organization can deploy new solutions and respond, the greater
the profit the business can realize."

In today's competitive business climate, organizations rely on network
storage providers for solutions to the challenges created by the e-business
environments -- among them the need for greater security and the demand for
24-hour availability. When surveyed for the key requirements of storage
technology, users reported higher availability of data, reduced back-up times,
and better storage and server utilization among the top five benefits.

Compaq is in a unique position to provide leading storage network
solutions. Since unveiling its Enterprise Network Storage Architecture (ENSA)
in November 1998, the company has continued to deliver on its commitment to
make the Open SAN (Storage Area Network) a reality. Providing the highest
connectivity and scalability in the current market, Compaq SAN solutions
include:
-- The industry's first SAN solutions that provide worldwide data

capabilities;
-- Software that instantly backs up and restores data at any point for

customers who rely on an uninterrupted computing environment;
-- Storage solutions configured for industry-leading applications; and
-- A complete portfolio of enterprise backup solutions for operations.

Piotr... I don't see it, but there would be no one happier than I to see 27+ again by Friday. The stock is out of favor, WS wants earnings and CPQ didn't get the job done. I won't argue what Cappelas did or did not say at the analysts meeting. I'll only say that what he said was perceived as weakness and caving in, and that is not cool. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but nice guys don't get it. Only cream and bastards rise. He may lack the horsepower. I don't know but imho, 27 1/2 by Friday is a dream. I see no catalyst to drive this stock in the near term and it seems to be determined to go back to 23-24. Furthermore, victor bought today, which is not a positive indicator. jajaja El

Piotr...CPQ is on option cycle one, therefore, it has no options expiring in February...Does this make a difference in the analysis?....Ralph

To Piotr,

Not a snowball's chance in hades that cpq will hit 27.50 by friday. Why? Because maximum pain point is virtually 100% inaccurate during the course of a bear movement or bull movement during the course of one month. It is a well known fact that the maximum pain point analysis can pretty much be thrown out the window during those few months that a particular stock is moving up or down more than 15% in any one given month. High volatility during a 30 day period pretty much negates the significance of the maximum pain point. In other words, come back to this post next week and say to me "see, cpq closed up at or above 27.50 at week's end and therefore the maximum pain point analysis always works". I'll bet the farm it won't happen - despite the fact that I wish it would.
