Finisar helps put the "work" in network by making equipment that enables high-speed data communications over LANs and SANs (storage area networks). Finisar's optical subsystems (60% of sales) include data links (transmitters, receivers, and transceivers) and link extenders. Its network performance test systems analyze traffic and identify problems. Newbridge Networks accounts for 25% of sales, and EMC (network storage products) accounts for 21%. The company outsources most of its assembly to US-based contract manufacturers. Founder and chairman Frank Levinson owns about 31% of Finisar, and CEO Jerry Rawls owns about 17%.

Proxim also markets branded products to systems integrators and value-added resellers in the health care, education, financial services, and retail industries.
