Everyone needs to remember that when we are dealing with millions of users, even if there is less than a 1% problem rate the number of complaints and problems will be high. We are dealing with the "good ol' boys" either directly (RBOC's) or indirectly (CLEC's use RBOC's central offices) so there is definitely some issues with service (or lack thereof). I live a ways outside of Dallas and thought I would never be able to get DSL. Come to find out that Phoenix Networks (through Rythyms) is offering it. They are getting around the RBOC's by running a dedicated line direct to me at no cost! DSL is it, no question about it. Yes there are going to be plenty of bumps, but I know several friends with cable modems. Their experiences with the cable companies would bring tears to your eyes. There is just too much money being spent by too many companies for high speed service not to make it big. Service can stand to be bad because the demand is so high. When demand tapers off in a few years, service will be the driving force.

Load coils, bridge taps, distance and RBOC incompetence have all conspired to delay DSL. It's a shame.
