Ike,

Another reason I doubt that the problems at General Re are big is that Warren has issued press releases in the past when some unusual event occurred. Years back he released a special letter to all shareholders describing our exposure to a southern hurricane when there was speculation on the amount of the loss. I believe rumors of trading losses on derivatives at the General Re unit were denied anyway.

Certainly General Re may still be suffering along with the weak reinsurance market, but that's not a valuation issue I don't believe. It's more a matter of when the market will turn. Naturally the sooner the better for the company. To me it's not an issue.

I think the BK is a market risk. If it happens, BRK will suffer along with everyone else. I will have to grit my teeth and know that in the long term it is adding value because Warren will redeploy the 35 billion or so in bonds towards undervalued equities.
