Berkshire Hathaway reveals stakes in apparel firms
WASHINGTON, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the holding company of billionaire investor Warren Buffett, revealed on Monday it has taken stakes in two clothing companies, Liz Claiborne Inc. (NYSE:LIZ - news) and Jones Apparel Group Inc. (NYSE:JNY - news).

The Omaha, Neb.-based company said it held a 8.3 percent stake, or 4,894,500 shares of common stock, in Liz Claiborne which designs and sells fashion apparel and accessories for women, according to a passive 13G Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Berkshire Hathaway also revealed it holds a 9.9 percent stake, or 12,125,000 shares of common stock, in Jones Apparel, according to a separate 13G SEC filing.

Jones Apparel, based in New York, also offers a range of women's clothing, including suits, dresses and sportswear in its 214 factory outlet stores and five full-price retail stores.

The two filings did not state when the shares were acquired or for how much.

Liz Claiborne shares closed up 5/16 to 31-9/16 on the New York Stock Exchange while Jones Apparel shares closed up 1/16 to 21-5/8 on the NYSE.

While we are out here. . . take a look at cyclicals. . . CAT, AA, John Deere, MMM, etc. . . some amazing numbers today. . . we need to keep a close watch on these. . .since this was the first line of retreat last spring.
