Could anyone please suggest to me a good online broker? I am extremely disgusted with E*TRADE Canada. It is one of the most terrible services I have ever seen. In the past week, I have spent several hours on the phone trying to reach customer service and all in vain. Please help

I wish I could help. They are all terrible due to the ever increasing individual traders---i have seen some news reports of the problems. You might want to try some of the lesser known banks.
Since it is an accross the board problem, you might be better off to just wait it out. Switching might not help unless you trade on the web or telephone touch tone trading.
On the bright side, I think all of them are going to sort out their problems very soon or else....

The other HUGE problem is the "know your client" rules in Canada. They have to check every trade to ensure that it meets your investment objectives. It is an old rule that was for brokers but it is kind of stupid in the days of online trading. Unfortunately, it is creating huge delays in order processing and also using up their human resources.

That means you haven't tried Canada Trust's Easy Web services. Even TD is getting really bad. Recently I waited for 30 minutes to get an order approved. On the positive side, the stock dropped and I got a better price!

Ameritrade is my on-line broker and I`ve been very pleased with them. They are very easy to contact and deal with. The only thing that I haven`t liked about them is that they don`t give you a run-down at the end of the year on your capital gains and losses. They just provide you with a list of your sales.
