David:

Thanks for the detail explanation. As a matter of fact,
I understand perfectly how hard it is to come up with
a "fair" value for COMS at pre spin-off time. The
example I gave in my last email was merely a rough
comparison.

However, having said that, I am confident COMS will reach
80 before IPO day of PALM. After IPO, it will depend
on how well PALM is traded. Of course, COMS will not
follow that 1.5PALM + 1 equation to the exact, but chances
are if PALM is traded at 40, there is no way for COMS
to be traded below 80 on the same day. And if PALM is
to be traded at 60, there is no way for COMS to be under
100.

I am going to hold on to my COMS until a few weeks before
D-day and see what happens.

Thanks again and good luck

Danny

DAvid,

That is a good point. I hadn't thought about the massive amount of shares. Is it possible that a decent amount of those shares would be insiders that would be subject t an additional "lock-up" period? Additionally, can they impose any sort of a lock-up on the divested shares?

Thanks again for your input,

Mike

david or anyone,

another date for to pay attention to and to factor into the equation is the ex-dividend date. to your knowledge, am i not correct that there will be a stipulated date at which time one must own COMS to qualify for the PALM distribution?

that date would seem to be at some point prior to the distribution (duh), and once that requisite is met, there will be increased selling pressure on COMS, don't you agree? it would be quite extraordinary if one had to own COMS on the date the PALM shares were distributed.

to my knowledge, no one knows this date, nor when it will be announced. am i correct in these assumptions?

:)

REAL WORLD USAGE OF THE PALM

biz.yahoo.com

This is a link to an article about a car dealership's usage of the PALM for inventory management. Coincidentally, I just became aware of another such real-world usage that has a lot of potential.

I do computer work for a Chicago-area high school that uses an Informix database as its student/staff/finance DBMS (database management system). They are rolling out an applet for the PALM that will allow anyone (in this case, the school's security staff) to access a student's record, schedule, etc. while roaming around the school. For now, it's NOT based on the PALM VII and telecomm but that's coming. This implementation is done on PALM IIIx's and involves a daily synch of the PALMs with the database at that point via the cradle.

SO MANY situations lend themselves to this type of PALM usage - schools, warehouses, hospitals... the list goes on.

By the way, does anyone have any confirmation of the U.S. military ordering PALM VII's for troops in the field, global positioning, etc.? On one of the msg boards someone mentioned this but perhaps it's just hearsay at this point. (?)

THANK YOU
