Elmer,

re:"a million a week"

How many Dempsey dumpsters does that translate to?
Or should I say, how many eMachines?
<g>

What hopeless fantasy of Intel screwing up forever?
It took months to have an Intellibee to admit screwing up has been occurring. And some Intellibees continue to maintain no screwing up is going on. Otelinni comes to mind.

Willy and 820/840. Perfect combination.

DELL still waiting >30 days on a P3-800 as of TODAY
End of fantasy.

Elmer Re <<That's a run rate of 52 Million/year from a single fab. Intel currently has 4 fabs running CuMine. Do the math. >>

Well "doing the math" gives you 208 Million Coppermine per year. That is more than the total numbers of CPU Intel makes from all of its fabs Combined!. What crock of sh*t Elmer!

What a sorry display of intelligence!

Run rate of ne million Coppermine per week, from one fab, NO WAY!!!. It is absurd.

Re:"there is a poster in Intel's Fab12 cafeteria that announces that Fab12 produced 1 million CuMine processors"

Elmer,

Someone in the cafeteria ? Come on Elmer. Throwing out a little more what I think Jim M calls "flame bait".

One more question. Does Intel really let employees post to SI from the cafeteria?

Re: Intel can still play the price card. They can respond to AMD's price war by matching AMD's prices...

They sure can. Intel had ASPs of about $200 last year. AMD has said that in their strategic planning, they expect their ASPs top out at $100.

Intel sold about a 100 millon CPUs last year. If Intel's ASPs had been $100 instead of $200, revenues would have been $10 Billion less than they were - costs would have remained the same. Intel would have lost several Billion dollars for the year.

But you suggest that Intel may match AMD's prices - so let's say ASPs on both sides get down to $75. With two FABs running to pay the costs of two FABs AMD will make modest profits with an ASP of $75. At $75, Intel would lose close to $5 Billion dollars a year.

If AMD can get an ASP of $100, it will make record profits.

The price war is coming, don't doubt it for a minute - just give careful thought as to which of these two companies is best positioned to prosper in such an environment.

Perhaps it's time to give up that hopeless fantasy that Intel will continue screwing up forever. Athlon will not be selling against a capacity constrained competitor much longer. If Intel shows a 1GHz CuMine processor this week built on their production process you might start thinking about your long term strategy with AMD. I will be holding on because I think this will take time to play out. As PB said, Intel can still play the price card. They can respond to AMD's price war by matching AMD's prices. ASPs could take a nosedive. More to come soon I'm sure.

EP, give up on Intel's screw ups......I don't thiiiink so. Just today the VP for Desktop tried to convince a crowd at IDF that a set of ZD benchmarks showed that the Celeron had twice the performance of the PIII/800!!!

The worst part is he gave a $20 bill to the ZD journalist who pointed out the error. That's the VP for Desktops not knowing the difference between the Celeron and cumine.

Don't you think that you should be concerned? If that's representative of Intel's upper mgmt, you might want to consider lightening your Intel load.

And btw, EP, everyone knows that the IDF is an Intel dog and pony show...and that Intel is good at snowing everyone.
Well, at least they were, until today when VP Gilsenger came along.

Elmo,

Isn't CuMine only on 0.18? Last I read from PB, Intel was at 10% ramp on 0.18 last year. Maybe it is now at 25%. This translates Fab 12 alone can produce 200+ million (52M/25%) CuMines per year? With 4 fabs, Intel will be making a 800+ million CuMines per year. If this is true, you better cover your shorts.
