>>>but has an extra ISA slot for my 56K modem card.<<<

I would think if you had to use a 56K modem you would at least want a pci card. The ISA slot is the slowest slot on the board....maybe good for a sound card? JMO

I've decided that I'm going to give the Abit VA-6 mb a try.

They have good reports. Thinking they have 1X/2X AGP Slot. Is this a problem? The 800 AMD Athlons are out. Need to float a Home Improvement Loan to play.LOL

Jeff mentions the ISA slot for modems. Perhaps he will enlighten us. I get KBs, MBs and all those confused. If a ISA Slot is 16 bit, w/10 MBs transfer rate isn't this faster than any Dial Up modem, Cable, DSL? or?????

Jeff, Dan, Anyone??????

Regards, /jw

ps:Microstar K7Pro MS 6195 in above URL has 6 PCI.

Not too shabby Sue, maybe get the AGP Gamer exchanged for Dual Matrox G400 if compatible. Add single PCI for additional monitors? until Dual PCI Video card appears on scene. Could they add NT4 in a dual Boot Config????
Am I missing Monitor included???not/included. It's in picture.

Just when I thought all hope had been lost, I get this call from the computer store telling me that my computer is ready. Turns out that the SB Live Value PCI card had been causing the problem and had to be replaced by the SB 128 PCI. No problem as I am currently running some cheap ISA-based audio card on my PII 400!

He did tell me, however, that the motherboard is quirky when it comes to installing cards in different slots. He said that he had to reload Windows '98 several times but that the configuration was now "stable."

From memory, this is the system that I ended up ordering:

PIII 667 Coppermine 133FSB, 256Kb full speed L2 cache
ASUS P3V4X (1 AGP4X, 6 PCI, 1 ISA, UDMA66, VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset)
256Mb PC133 SDRAM
Main HD - 13Gb Quantum KX UDMA66 7200
Secondary HD - 20Gb Quantum KX UDMA 7200
Pioneer 10X DVD-Rom
HP 9100I CD-R/W
Matrox G400 Dual Head AGP
SB 128 PCI sound card
Acer 56K PCI modem card
Acer 10/100 NIC
ATX Mid Tower case

By the way Howard, JW, Zeus and gang, I have only used up 3 PCI slots - still have 3 left for 2 video cards (I'll try 2 ATI Expert '98s) AND A SECOND NIC for networking!!!

Will let you all know when I pick it up! It'll probably be Friday or early next week as I want to have a couple of hours to try it out before bringing it home!

Sue :)
