Chuck, I have seen many doomed processor programs over the years - I find this whole spectre of trying to comeup with new instruction sets somewhat saddening. IA-64 presents some additional challenges to software development. VLIW instruction sets present new hazards to programmers. Assembly code is not practical, and low level debug is extremely complicated. I don't think Sun has much to worry about in the near term from IA-64. Scumbria
