JBOH settles with US attorney:

JB Oxford settles US Attorney investigation
LOS ANGELES, Feb 15 (Reuters) - Discount and online brokerage JB Oxford Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: JBOH) on Tuesday said it agreed to pay $2 million during the next three years to settle a federal investigation into trading activity and information about its management's ownership.

While not admitting guilt, the company said it agreed to the settlement with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California regarding actions by the company's prior management.

The agreement also calls for the company to pay expenses associated with the two and a half year international investigation.

The company said it would pay $500,000 in the first quarter of 2000 and the remainder in annual instalments of $500,000 each over the next three years and will recognise a charge in the first quarter to account for the settlement.

"Given the significant opportunities ahead for JB Oxford, not to mention the high legal costs that we would continue to incur to refute the government's allegations, we believe it is in the best interest of the company and its shareholders to put this matter to rest," C.L. Jarratt, the company's chairman and chief executive, said in a statement.

An investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is ongoing. The company said it is cooperating with the SEC and is hopeful that this investigation will be settled.

Shares of JB on Tuesday closed at 6-3/16.
