Ten, semiconeng, cameras inside Intel, I didn't think so. I thought it was a bit strange for a conservative company like Intel to make a congratulatory banner accessible for viewing by the public walking into the lobby. I also don't think they'd put it there unless the contents were true.

Agreed. Several people have wondered why intel would reveal something that is supposed to be secret. I believe the reasoning behind it was morale.

It's no secret, that in the last 6 Months, just about everyone has been dumping on intel. What they forget, is that there are human beings "down in the trenches", doing a damn fine job, and when people dump on the company, it reflects on them.

I know several people who work for intel, and they're pretty disgusted at all the crap the company's been taking. I think that the Company needed to show them that their efforts are appreciated by management, despite all the crap.

Besides, it's a relatively low risk announcement, since it didn't reveal Speed Grades, Capacity, Product Mix, or any other products running at F12.

There is a large banner in Intel's Chandler campus cafe proclaiming "Merced Tapes Out - July 4th". It's no surprise to anybody now but it was up there the day after tapeout, for any visitor to see. It gives the die size and the transistor count and other details of the project. I think it is a mistake for them to do this.
