Re: European MSOs- Deutsche Telekom's Cable Plant Sale

Jochen- Quite a timely article considering our recent postings. Apparently Telekom is going to follow through with their wish to sell pieces of their cable plant to multiple buyers.

Just in case you didn't know, their cable plant is so ubiquitious, that Telekom is in fear of a single buyer (like Bill Gates or NTL) purchasing it and then immediately converting it to two-way HFC with full cable telephony capabilities. Then it would be an awesome competitor to their lock on the local loop.

I sure hope the sale goes through rapidly because that would mean the infrastructure upgrades would be accelerated. But that tax hurdle is going to be hard to overcome. Maybe since German regulators are so eager for the deals to go through, they may make an exception and grant them early favored tax status. That would be nice.

If you know, who is the predominate supplier of HFC upgrade equipment in Europe? I know most of the US players, but don't know how much of a presence they have in Europe. -MikeM(From Florida)
