Mike and Thread, I got my 32MB MMC cards yesterday. I was very happy to get them so quickly from Buy.com and the price was reasonable at $72.00 a piece. The cards come in a clear plastic display package with a keyhole in the top for hanging at retail. The plastic case is the indestructible variety with a seal around the entire edge that makes it somewhat difficult to open. I cut mine open with a scissors. You need to be careful removing the chip which is set in a rectangular depression on the face of the package giving it an embossed appearance from the outside. I was afraid I may bend or break the card in removing it. There is a color insert in the package with SanDisk's trademark and pictures of various target consumer electronics devices. There is also a side profile of Nelson Chan listening to an mp3 player. The package indicates that the MMC is designed for mobile audio, digital videocameras, cell phones and portable computing. Digital photography is not listed as an application. Naturally so, because CompactFlash has all the newer design ins. I have 6 MMC's now. Two 8MB "Siemens" cards that came with my Pontis mp3 player. These are actually of SanDisk origin. I also have two SanDisk 16MB cards from the I-Jam player I bought for my wife's niece. I received three 32MB cards yesterday and will swap one of these for the two 16MB cards from the I-Jam purchase before I give it away. The other two I will use in my Pontis player. I-Jam, which is located in Schaumburg, IL, proudly displays SNDK on the box and did not private label the MMC's within the box. I wish more OEM's would get in the habit of proclaiming SanDisk Inside! MMC is an engineering marvel. I don't see how they fit all the guts inside that card with the controller chip and all. The chip is very small and light, but not flimsy like SmartMedia. In comparison, CF is much more substantial. Let's say CF is a sports utility vehicle and MMC is a Miata. I prefer the look and feel of CF and hope that SanDisk continues to promote CF for digital photography while focusing MMC on applications as above. I think you can justify charging more per MB for CF given the target market, that being primarily digital photography. MMC is geared toward a younger crowd and will need to come down in price before it is purchased in handfuls. It would be nice to set different price targets based on the demographics of users so that the two media do not compete. That appears to be the game plan. I am excited about MMC. Ausdauer
