Some ancient history . . .

I stumbled across the INS fight between IDX and DBII, while looking for something else, and read the court decision that upheld the INS award to DBII of the 276 tenprinter deal last January.

There were a couple of interesting facts: DBII had the low bid over IDX, but not by very much: $8,828,544 to $9,103,883. Per machine, that comes to a DBII quote of $31,987 and an IDX quote of $32,985.

The INS delivery schedule for DBII, which officially started on January 8, 1999, required 12 machines by March 8, 1999; 20 more on April 8 and May 8; 30 more on June 8, July 8, August 8, September 8, and October 8; 40 more machines delivered by November 8; and, the final 34 machines delivered by December 8.

The entire contract expires on August 31, 2003. Presumably the later date refers to ongoing DBII maintenance obligations.
