Clone funds

These funds are the Canadian mutual fund industry's response to the limits on foreign content permitted in Canadians' registered retirement accounts. Usually they hold some Canadian liquid asset, such as T-bills, which they use as collateral to purchase a U.S. or other foreign index fund. As more of these things have become available, and as the Canadian government doesn't seem to be clamping down on them yet, they are attracting quite a lot of money. The rush is in part due to the fact that the TSE 300 underperformed the S&P 500 all but three years in the 90s.
