1.5 GHz

This Register article theregister.co.uk says Willy's integer unit runs DOUBLE the speed of the rest of the processor. Nice call Kap.

What a disappointment! Half the processor runs at ONLY .75GHz. What does the cache run at???

The Athlon is the ONLY X86 processor to be demoed at a FULL* speed of greater than 1GHz.

* Full = the whole processor, not just the stinking Integer unit!

_______
EDIT - OK, so now I'm confused. Anand is saying the Integer unit runs at 3 GHz!

"One of the biggest features of the Willamette is its ability to run the Integer ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) at twice the clock speed of the CPU. This means that on a 1.5GHz Willamette, the Integer ALU is actually running at 3.0GHz. For games this won?t increase performance by a large amount due to their largely floating point oriented performance dependency however in business applications and other applications that are primarily integer performance dependent the Willamette will truly excel."

Who is right?

If Anand is right, Whoa!...

Cirruslvr,

My take is that Athlon will keep the MHz lead for the indefinite future. I was worried by the rumors of PIII at 1.3GHz earlier this week, but they turned out to be nonsense.

The "limited production" of 1.0 GHz PIII sounds like more of the same baloney we have been watching for months now. Intel is pulling every stop to create a small volume of fast parts. In contrast, Athlon has been ramping up extremely conservatively.

Where is 800 MHz?

Time for AMD to get paranoid, they have MHz, err, GHz competition now!

Cirruslver, maybe not! Don't you think the new AMD may have something up its sleeve?!! I think so!
