US Dec PPI revised to +0.1 pct from +0.3 pct

WASHINGTON, Feb 15 (Reuters) - The Department of Labor on
Tuesday revised its December Producer Price Index (PPI) to a
0.1 percent increase from a previously reported 0.3 percent
rise.
The department revised the index, which measures inflation
at the wholesale level, for the period 1995-1999 to reflect
added seasonal factors for 2000 and recalculated seasonal
factors for 1995-1999 to the commodity indices. Seasonal
adjustment factors were also recalculated for 1995-1999
stage-of-processing indices, Labor said.
"Each year with the release of PPI data for January,
seasonal adjustment factors are recalculated to reflect price
movements from the just-completed calendar year," the
department said in a statement.
The January report, scheduled for release Feb. 17, will
reflect the changes. The added factors did little to change the
major components of December PPI although some subcomponents
may be revised in the next report.
Following are key components of the December Producer Price
Index, with comparisons of figures following the revisions and
prior to them (percent changes seasonally adjusted):

Dec (Prev)
Finished Goods 0.1 0.3
Less Food, Energy 0.1 0.1

Intermediate Goods 0.2 0.2
Less Food, Energy 0.2 0.2

Crude Goods -3.9 -3.9
Less Food, Energy (Y) 2.0 1.8
