If you buy into the idea that semi's are a cyclical industry, the "experts" are saying we are about 1/3 through the cycle. If you peg the start of the cycle to the 2nd quarter of '99, then yes, we have a couple of years.

On the other hand, things are changing in technology so fast, who knows where the next, "next thing" is going to come from. And maybe the cycles will compress.

I think so. Wilf Corrigan of LSI sees strong sales through 2003 now, and he thinks the next down may not be so severe because of the growth of the Internet, broadband and wireless. The number of hosts connected to the Internet is just about doubling every two years, where hosts can be anything that can get an IP address assigned. Most of those are still computers, not bad for Intel. It's going to be a tough one to call, the next down, that is, and what to do with stocks owned.
