Mike: Thanks for sharing your views about Salesforce.com....

I tend to agree that it will be VERY difficult to displace Siebel. Yet, there are some smart players backing Salesforce.com. It will be interesting to see if this company can really execute and reach its full potential <VBG>....Here's a profile of Salesforce.com...

<<Salesforce.com is the San Francisco-based sales force automation and customer relationship management company founded in March 1999 by ex-Oracle executive Marc Benioff. The company's vision is to be a world-class company delivering essential business applications and services via the Internet. Our first offering is an enterprise-class sales force automation solution, aptly named salesforce.com, which is currently in use with Pilot Program partners.

Our Board of Directors
Our current board is made up of:

Marc Benioff, chairman of salesforce.com

John Dillon, president and ceo of salesforce.com

Larry Ellison, chairman of Oracle;

Halsey Minor, chairman of C|Net; and

Magdalena Yesil, a venture partner at U.S. Venture Partners.
Our Financing

salesforce.com is funded by Silicon Valley's leading angels and venture funds including: Marc Benioff; Larry Ellison; Halsey Minor; Magdalena Yesil; Patrick McGovern, Chairman of IDG; William Hambrecht, Founder of Hambrecht and Quist; Bob Anderson, Founder of KLA; John Friedenrich, Partner at Bay Partners; Gigi Brisson and Harvey Allison, Attractor Partners; and Igor Sill, Geneva Partners.>>
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Larry Ellison seems to be a major backer of Salesforce.com and is on the board. I would not be surprised if Oracle would try to buy this new pioneer.

Best Regards,

Scott

RE: Ellison + Benioff vs. Tom Siebel

That comment doesn't speak any better of him than Siebel's and Ellison's trading of public barbs speaks of them. In that sense, the three of them deserve each other. What is it about these ex- and present Oracle guys?

See what happens when guys take showers together at the corporate gym...

The fact that Ellison is on the side of Benioff explains a lot about Benioff's comments of "our objective is to put Siebel Systems out of business". What kind of fertilizer is that comment? Same old stuff. Meanwhile, gorilla Siebel goes about their daily business of boosting their value chain, winning contracts and solidifying their business with new ventures, focus and vision. In other words, after the shower scene scenario, we know who is carrying the big stick. <vbg>

On a more serious matter, the kind of growth on the horizon for the space will benefit many.
