some of my best friends are Polish
one is a VP at Fidelity, former Digital colleague
he is one of the smartest ingenious hungry guys I have ever known

too bad I missed out on the Polish bashing

I generally conclude that when an ethnic group reacts with hostility, they harbor some deep inner wounds... sometimes the wounds are based on tragedy (holocaust, Cuban communism, Albanian ethnic cleansing, Irish servitude from potato famines)

but sometimes they are based on inferiority complex
I love my many Italian friends... they are merciless among themselves... they are also some of the best genuine friends one can have on earth... when I bash them as in the Sopranos last week, no big deal... they can laugh at themselves

but the Cuban issues were on my mind while driving from Massatwhoshits to Jersey... and my conclusion was that their tragedy, their desparation to risk a rift to float to Miami, that is not something they laugh at among themselves... instead it brings sadness... that is why I apologized

I grew up in a heavily Jewish neighborhood... some neighbors had nearly wiped out families... no holocaust jokes from me, too insensitive... knew a Latvian Jew neighbor, worked for him in construction... I was a summer lackey digging trenches, humping 50 sheets of plywood to second floor, etc... he was shot by Nazis and left in a heap of dead bodies... not the stuff to joke about

so there, not really too sensitive a response by Eski and Angel

I capiche, Jim Willie Screwball

>> When everyone was making fun of the Polish, no one held back on them. Now you can't say anything about anyone without making someone mad. I think people are taking themselves too seriously.

Dear Mr. J Krnjeu,

I have noted your impeccable manners over the past few years and know that you have no rancor in your heart, so perhaps you are correct. People should not be so touchy about others making remarks that demean their mothers, sisters, brothers, or cultural beliefs.

I note that you don't have any personal information listed in your profile. I am sure this is an oversight since that is impolite by Silicon Investor cultural standards. As soon as you supply your country of origin, you can join in what you perceive as American fun by being a target for racial jokes.

Thank you so much,
unc

btw, American life is very complex due to the mixture of cultures and races that constitute our rich society. It is much safer to make ethnic slurs in homogeneous cultures where the target of the "fun" isn't around to fight back.
