The new products to be announced at OFC 2000 consist of optical components and modules that serve a broad range of applications for the telecommunications and cable TV industries. These products are intended to serve a wide array of applications in optical transmission, amplification, dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), switching and network control, data communications and optical instrumentation. The new product introductions include 40 gigabits/second (OC-768) and 10 gigabits/second (OC-192) transmission components and modules; tunable lasers; Raman, low cost and high power amplification products; pump lasers for optical amplification; DWDM products for 80 plus channel, 50GHz spacing at OC-192 bit rates and emerging L band transmission; advanced optical switching and add/drop products; new instrumentation products; and transmitter/receiver modules. In addition, at OFC 2000 the Company will demonstrate developments in thermo-polymer array waveguide and fiber Bragg grating technologies with several new hybrid products combining technologies designed to achieve breakthroughs in channel count and performance.

``We have made extensive investments in new product development to serve the rapidly changing needs of our customers,' said Jozef Straus, Co-Chairman, President and Chief Operating Officer of JDS Uniphase. ``In the first six months of fiscal 2000 we invested almost $40 million in new product development, and these new products are the direct result of the efforts of the over 1,000 people in our R&D activities around the world.'
