Infodata Systems Inc. Announces E-Business Contract

Powerful Technology and Rapid Deployment by Infodata Helps Silicon Valley Start-Up and its Customers Speed Time-to-Market

FAIRFAX, Va., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Infodata Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: INFD - news) today announced it has signed a contract with RedKnife, Inc., an emerging Silicon Valley e-commerce services company, to design and implement a comprehensive systems infrastructure for processing and exchanging electronic catalog and transactional information over the web.

According to Steve Samowich, president and CEO of Infodata Systems, ''RedKnife will play a critical part in streamlining and simplifying the exchange of information between electronic retailers, product suppliers, distributors, catalog publishers, and fulfillment partners on the Web. Infodata was chosen for this contract because of our commitment to developing complex business-to-business (B2B) systems for Internet companies at a fixed price in record time. We specialize in accelerating the time for early stage e-businesses to get to critical first-revenue.''

About RedKnife

RedKnife is a Silicon Valley start-up company who will process and manage both catalog information and transactional data for manufacturers, distributors and e-commerce retail (''e-tail'') sites. Many e-tailers spend an inordinate amount of time building, maintaining, and adapting to the communications protocols and formats of their suppliers' catalog and order processing information. Because most of the interfaces today and for the next couple of years will continue to be proprietary and unique, the cost of developing these individual protocols is significant and can slow the launch of a new electronic marketplace.

''We chose Northern Virginia-based Infodata to design and deploy our e- business system because we believe they will significantly reduce our time-to- market,'' said Alan Fisher, CEO of RedKnife and member of the board of Infodata. ''The technical talent pool in the Silicon Valley has reached maximum capacity. Time-to-market is critical to both RedKnife and our customers. Since RedKnife is a complex system, we need a partner like Infodata who offers us the combination of technical vision and business acumen and can start work immediately.''

Infodata's E-Hub Technology

Under the contract with RedKnife, Infodata will use its ''E-Hub'' XML-based application as the basis for RedKnife's web infrastructure. E-Hub is a scalable, open architecture application framework to support the gathering, transformation and storage of content from disparate, heterogeneous systems. The XML-based technology allows users to assemble just-in-time information from a variety of sources and to encode this information in a common electronic format for easy distribution via corporate Intranets, extranets, or the Internet.
