Canadian options (con't) The market impact of the new ruling is that insiders who own options are no longer forced, for tax reasons, to sell the minute they exercise the option (because they're stuck with the tax bill - whatever happens to the stock price later). Often they are forced to exercise and sell on the expiry date. Under the new rules they are not taxed until they sell the stock.
