O/T Slider; You need to develop the ability to READ BETWEEN THE LINES! The quoted article stated: "work programmes in 3,500 to 5,00 feet of water will keep the MARKET TIGHT by taking supply AWAY from the deeper water market." Slider, The Spinmeister's interpretation of above: "There is excess capacity for two years forward in even the most bullish of environments." Message 12885523 EXTRACTS from the report: "Of the 58 rigs in the world able to drill in more than 5,000 ft of water, 98% will be under contract by the first quarter of 2000, according to a major study* by Bassoe Offshore Consultants. This demand on its own, appears insufficient to keep the ultra deepwater fleet busy since the supply of units able to drill at these depths is set to increase from 39 to 58 over the next two years. However, known work programmes in 3,500 to 5,000 feet of water will keep the market tight by taking supply away from the deeper water market."bassoe.com Comment: One might think (a novel concept) that with all the continuous parroting, the Mouth would develop the ability to interpret information in a more objective and BROADER fashion. When I read the SAME report, I observed Deep Water capabilities being TEMPORARILY used in shallower waters (at reduced day rates) (MOST likely on short contracts) as the market continues the cyclical RECOVERY. As old and NEW customers upgrade their E & P capabilities, they will UNDOUBTEDLY opt for 'State of the Art' equipment with the capabilities to work multiple environments, including SHALLOW AND DEEP water (and points in between). This simple concept appears too advanced for the MOUTH to comprehend. Rigs capable of working in 5,000 to 10,000 feet of water can be utilized in more shallow environments; but, the REVERSE is NOT true. WHAT part of that is so difficult to understand? It's another rhetorical, little cretin; no response necessary! >VBG< DUE TO THE EXTENDED LEAD TIMES necessary to construct Deep Water equipment, the ORDERs WILL be forthcoming VERY SOON, and since the capacity to produce in high quantities is limited; competitors who wish to remain on the cutting edge WILL try to be FIRST. It is an elementary human characteristic to do so, Dr. Watson! The same group of weenies who say the NEW BUILD programs will not commence for 2 or 3 years were very likely the same ones predicting $5 to $7 WTI crude just a year ago. FWIW TDW's Mr. O'Malley is making preparations to SERVICE deep water activity. I wonder if he gets his information and develops long term strategies based rumors, spin & hype from the Street or the Parrot? >g< SargeK Tip of the Day: There are some excellent books on reading comprehension available in your local library. Quite simply: It's understanding what you read, STUPID!>g<
