SCEP, patent news just out . . .

BATON ROUGE, La./FAR HILLS, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 16,
2000--Medisys(R) Technologies, Inc. (SCEP:OTC Bulletin Board), a
pioneer in the design and development of safety needle devices,
announced today that the Company has received a U.S. patent for its
PreSaf(TM) injection safety syringe designed for the significant
prefilled syringe market. The patent increases to 19 the number of
U.S. patents covering the Company's medical safety devices and other
products.
PreSaf(TM) is a specialty intramuscular injection safety syringe
that provides protection from accidental needlesticks with a passive
safety feature that is similar to the Company's other safety products,
including its lead product, the CoverTip(TM) hypodermic safety
syringe. In comparison to other safety devices, the Medisys safety
product line offers the user superior ease of use because the safety
feature is engaged automatically. This is a particular benefit for the
prefilled syringe market, which supplies medications and vaccines for
mass population treatment on a global basis. Prefilled syringes are
the preferred method of mass-scale drug delivery for healthcare
providers because they lower injection costs by requiring less
preparation, fewer materials, and easier storage and disposal. Typical
mass-scale applications include influenza and pneumonia prevention
injections, and various drugs used in the treatment of AIDS.
Medisys(R) President and COO Kerry Frey commented, "The addition
of the PreSaf(TM) device complements the Medisys(R) portfolio of
patented safety devices and underscores the Company's dedication to
safety in the healthcare arena. Our objective is to be a comprehensive
source for the healthcare provider who must balance the dual concerns
of holding down costs while raising the level of sharps safety."
In addition to the CoverTip(TM) hypodermic syringe, previously
patented safety devices include: BXDraw(TM), a fine needle
biopsy/aspiration safety syringe; SofDraw(TM), a blood and fluid
collection safety syringe; and MultiDraw(TM), a needleless multiple
vacuum vial blood collection safety device. The Company has filed, or
is filing, patent applications for new safety designs in blood
collection, capillary blood testing, and tissue excision cutting
needles. In total, the Company has 19 patent applications pending for
its medical devices in both the U.S. and overseas.
