BOMBARDIER CONSOLIDATES LEADERSHIP POSITION IN
ASIA/PACIFIC AND SIGNS THIRD NEW AIRLINE CUSTOMER IN
CHINA
FEBRUARY 17, 2000
TORONTO, ONTARIO--Bombardier Aerospace today announced the sale of
three CRJ200* Series regional jet aircraft to Shanghai Airlines.
The sale, valued at approximately US $68 million (Cdn $98
million), constitutes the third new airline customer in China in
less than a year.

"We look forward to the addition of Bombardier's CRJ200 Series to
our fleet," said Shanghai Airlines president Zhou Chi. "Our
intention is to develop and build new markets with the CRJ that,
at the present time, would not be viable with our larger jet
equipment," he said.

"We are very gratified with our success in China over the past
several months," said James E. Dailly, vice president sales,
Asia/Pacific, Bombardier Aerospace, Regional Aircraft. "We have
focussed our efforts on the Chinese market recently and we are
proud that airlines such as Shanghai Airlines have chosen our
products as practical business tools in China's air transport
industry," he said.

The airline, formed in 1985 as the first commercial airline in
China, currently operates 100 routes connecting 35 destinations.
Its fleet, consisting of Boeing 767, 757 and 737 aircraft, offered
travelers in China a choice of 20,000 flights or 55 flight
segments daily over the past year. The City of Shanghai and Bank
of China are the majority shareholders for the independently
managed airline.

The sale brings Bombardier's orderbook for the CRJ family to 726
aircraft including 371 deliveries and 355 backlogged orders. For
the Asia/Pacific market specifically, it brings the orderbook to
30 CRJ aircraft, underlining Bombardier's strong leadership in
this market.

In China alone, in November 1999, Bombardier Aerospace announced
the sale of five CRJ200* regional jet aircraft to Shandong
Airlines in coastal China. Earlier in the year, it announced a
contract for the sale of three of its quiet Q400 Series Dash 8(r)
turboprop airliners to Changan Airlines of Shanxi Province in that
country.

Bombardier Aerospace, a unit of Bombardier Inc., is the world's
third largest civil aircraft manufacturer with operations in three
countries. Leading the 20- to 70-passenger regional carrier
market, Bombardier Aerospace offers complete families of turboprop
and regional jet aircraft. It has the industry's widest range of
business jets, offering both full and fractional ownership, and
also produces firefighting/maritime mission aircraft. It provides
technical services, aircraft maintenance and pilot training to
business, regional airline and military customers.

Bombardier Inc. is a Canadian corporation active in the fields of
aerospace, rail transportation equipment, recreational products
and financial services. It operates plants in 12 countries in
North America, Europe and Asia, and more than 90 per cent of its
revenues are generated outside Canada. Bombardier's revenues for
its fiscal year ended Jan. 31, 1999, totalled Cdn $11.5 billion.
