Emcore Sees Joint Array Transceiver w/JDS Shipping In 2Q (EMKR)
(NewsTraders.com)--Emcore Corp. (EMKR) which signed a preliminary agreement with JDS Uniphase (JDSU) in January to jointly develop, manufacture and market a family of fiber optic array transceivers, stated today that it expects to begin shipping an array transceiver by the second calendar quarter.
The devices will be based on Emcore's laser technology that facilitates light-to-logic for fiber optic communications solutions used in switches, routers and computer backplanes, according to an 8-K filing with the SEC today.

Emcore anticipates that JDS Uniphase will place an initial purchase order upon signing of a final pact. The terms and conditions of delivery will be finalized upon completion of development of the product.

Under the deal, which is currently just a memorandum of understanding, JDS will design and develop the optical packaging for the products and handle all marketing and worldwide sales and distribution.

The products will be designed to enable short-distance links between dense wavelength division multiplexing systems, high-speed routers and SONET, or long-haul telecommunications equipment, Emcore said.

Also in the filing, Emcore stated that it entered into a three-year supply agreement with Agilent Technologies (A) in January to manufacture Gigarray VCSEL arrays for use in parallel optical transceivers.

The initial purchase order under the Agilent deal is contingent upon development of a component that meets Agilent's specifications, Emcore said.

Emcore expects to begin shipping sample products to Agilent in June, with full commercial shipments commencing by year-end.

Shares of Emcore were recently higher by $5.19 at $82.00.
