Farrell talks to MCV Now about WM2K shortage:
>>"Between March and September/October of last year, people were pronouncing the Nintendo 64 market dead. And, actually, the irony of your question is that we took a very aggressive inventory position on it because we believed in the game and in the WWF license,? THQ CEO Brian Farrell tells MCV. ?It's the biggest cartridge we've ever bought from Nintendo [32MB/256Mb cartridge with 64K battery-backed RAM]. It was a huge, expensive cart that was highest on the price list. So, we were even more aggressive than our retail demand, and we still ran out. I think it was a combination of the fact that this product was so hot and retailers and a lot of us were worried about the Nintendo 64 market.? .....You cannot be caught too long with the inventories. You have to be careful. Again, with respect to Wrestlemania, we were very aggressive on the buy and still turned out to be low. It's a high-class problem to have. I'd rather have it that way than the other way. You don't like being out of stock, but it's a lot better than having a couple hundred thousand units in inventory and no place to go with them." ....."I think that the seasonal demand is behind us. We've been receiving reorders very quickly here in the first quarter. We will keep feeding the channel as long as there's demand, [and] it looks like there's a lot of demand out there.<<
