danofthebes, I would not be surprised that if ALA/NN are going to merge, the future deal is a function of NN and ALA performance in the next quarter.

Well said danofthebes, I well remember ALA at 20. However it
now appears they have cleaned their act.
I think that the proper thing to do now is to wait for NN to announce
" the new and improved NN " on Tues. 22 PM.
Then look at market reaction on Wed.
At that point I think ALA is going to have to decide.
Personally I think that the ALA / NN combination is a firestarter, red/hot.
I hope they can see into the future,

back much later,

TA

PS : One thing more I wanted to mention. I don't read the
Canadian papers with any frequency. NT is a big player in
Canada. I wonder to what degree the writings of papers like
the Ottawa Citizen or The National Post or Financial Post
are influenced by NT. Many papers become " politicized ".
So I think we need to be careful when these papers quote
" analysts " , or , " people in the know " and produce opininons.

Anyone remember this...
Perhaps it's ALA that has to make sure it has its act together before NN will accept any ALA stock. 8~)

On September 17, 1998, nine days after Alcatel Alsthom (Symbol: ALA) acquired DSC Communications Inc. ("DSC"), Alcatel announced that its financial results
would miss analysts' earnings projections by $260 million. Holders of DSC stock (Symbol: DIGI) who received American Depository Receipts (ADRs) of Alcatel in
connection with the acquisition of DSC by Alcatel are alleged to have been defrauded by Alcatel's materially false and misleading registration statement filed in
connection with the merger, which failed to disclose that Alcatel was suffering a severe decline in its business that would negatively impact its 1998 results. On news
of the truth about Alcatel, its ADRs fell from from a close of 33-1/32 on September 16, 1998 to 19.25 on September 17, 1998, losing 38.5% of its value in a single
day.
