From the Ashanti 3Q 1999 report:
<<Excellent progress on construction has been made at Geita, where capital expenditure is on budget and completion is scheduled
by the end of the third quarter 2000. Exploration in the Nyankanga area continues to achieve outstanding results below the
current pit which will allow the pit to be deepened to access high grade ore and could provide potential for the development of
a small higher grade underground mine. Total resources at Geita have increased to over 12 million ounces. >>
Maybe they want the capital to get that high grade going as soon as possible? Part of the work out of their big mess? Can't imagine this company will last that long (till 3Q 2000) without a POG miracle and REAL patient creditors.
