[ Broadcom and CeBIT2000/Pairgain-CLEC-contract ]

Broadcom is one of the world?s most innovative chip design firms, which recently shipped the first Gigabit Ethernet chip. They supply most of the chips for cable modems. But the founders, Henry Nicholas & Henry Samueli, were two of the pioneers of DSL. In fact, one of the reasons they founded Broadcom was that Pairgain, for which they were working, refused sufficient support for their DSL vision. They released a VDSL chip in 1998, and hope to drive that market.

Pairgain is attending the CeBit2000 trade show in Hannover Germany next week. Hopefully the European CLEC which Pairgain has a contract with will announce their xDSL service.
