Globalstar invests $ 1 million in publicity

The president of the Republic, Hugo Cold Ch vez, inaugurated in Caracas the first
earth station of Globalstar in Latin America, which is equipped with three tracking
antennas that will allow to offer services of telecommunications, not only in the national
territory, but also in Colombia, Surinam, French Guyana and the Eastern Caribbean. As
strategy to enter the market is made an advertising investment of 1 million dollars,
which contemplate to commercial fences and of radio and television.

The system of Globalstar consists of a constellation of 48 satellites in low orbit that
anticipates world-wide cover of services of telecommunications, from movable digital
telephony to location and data transmission.

Maritza Escalona, chief of a main directorate of Te.Sam Venezuela, informed that the
company has established contact to make its direct sales through companies of
telephony like CANTV, On Networks Line, Bantel, Movilnet and Digitel.

The commercial launching is predicted for the next month of March, date in which they
will occur to know the diverse plans trade and supplies so that the people can acquire
the telephone with their services to a competitive cost.

In principle, two models of telephone will be offered: the Italian Telic, whose price will be
near 1,300 dollars and the Erickson who will cost 1,600 dollars. And the cost of the
service will be of 1.50 dollars minute and 1.10 for movable applications. They consider
to have a plan of public telephony in which they can reach 0.90 dollars the minute.

Also they contemplate the option of rent of telephones to tourists, service that will
become thanks to the strategic association with the company Century 2000 possible.
The apparatus will cost 20 dollars daily plus the line of the prepayment that will have a
value of 2.90 dollars per minute.

They have contemplated to arrive at 2 types of users: those of high traffic, people who
work in zones of exploration to risk as it is the case of the Amacuro Delta; and the user
who only has cellular service and uses the service of Globalstar in trips to places where
its signal does not have cover. The company considers to have for end of year
approximating of 10,000 users.

In Venezuela, the company will offer two types of movable services: the monoway, that
will allow the communications in Globalstar way through the constellation of satellites in
which each user will have a unique number to national calls from the outside; and the
dual service or biway. and it will allow the communications in cellular way GSM - used
by movable companies of telephony like Digitel, Infonet and Elca- like in Globalstar as
much.
Latin America account with 3 stations in Brazil, 1 in Peru and 1 in Argentina.

Next, the company considers to raise around 38 stations, like the inaugurated one in
Venezuela, anywhere in the world for end of year, which will cover precise zones with
up to 3,000 kilometers of diameter.

In average, it is anticipated that each terrestrial satelite station connects to the
subscribers in an area of 2,000 kilometers to the round one.

de Globalstar en Am‚rica Latina, la cual est  dotada de tres antenas rastreadoras que permitir n
ofrecer servicios de telecomunicaciones, no s¢lo en el territorio nacional, sino tambi‚n en
Colombia, Surinam, Guyana Francesa y el Caribe oriental. Como estrategia para entrar en el
mercado se realizar  una inversi¢n publicitaria de 1 mill¢n de d¢lares, la cual contempla vallas y
comerciales de radio y televisi¢n.

El sistema de Globalstar consiste en una constelaci¢n de 48 sat‚lites en ¢rbita baja que prev‚
cobertura mundial de servicios de telecomunicaciones, desde telefon¡a digital m¢vil hasta
localizaci¢n y transmisi¢n de datos.

Maritza Escalona, directora general de Te.Sam Venezuela, inform¢ que la empresa ha establecido
contacto para realizar sus ventas directas a trav‚s de compa¤¡as de telefon¡a como CANTV,
Redes On Line, Bantel, Movilnet y Digitel.

El lanzamiento comercial est  previsto para el pr¢ximo mes de marzo, fecha en la que se dar n a
conocer los diversos planes de mercadeo y ofertas para que las personas puedan adquirir el
tel‚fono con sus servicios a un costo competitivo.

En principio, se ofrecer n dos modelos de tel‚fono: el Telic italiano, cuyo precio estar  cerca de
1.300 d¢lares y el Erickson que costar  1.600 d¢lares. Y el costo del servicio ser  de 1,50 d¢lares
el minuto y 1,10 para aplicaciones m¢viles. Estiman tener un plan de telefon¡a p£blica en el que
puedan llegar a 0,90 d¢lares el minuto.

Tambi‚n contemplan la opci¢n de alquiler de tel‚fonos a turistas, servicio que se har  posible
gracias a la asociaci¢n estrat‚gica con la empresa Century 2000. El aparato costar  20 d¢lares
diarios m s la l¡nea del prepago que tendr  un valor de 2,90 d¢lares por minuto.

Tienen contemplado llegar a 2 tipos de usuarios: los de alto tr fico, personas que trabajan en zonas
de exploraci¢n a riesgo como es el caso del Delta Amacuro; y el usuario que tiene servicio celular
y s¢lo usa el servicio de Globalstar en viajes a lugares donde su se¤al no tiene cobertura. La
empresa estima tener para final de a¤o un aproximado de 10.000 usuarios.

En Venezuela, la empresa ofrecer  dos tipos de servicios m¢viles: el monomodo, que permitir  las
comunicaciones en modo Globalstar a trav‚s de la constelaci¢n de sat‚lites en el que cada
usuario dispondr  de un n£mero £nico para llamadas nacionales desde el exterior; y el servicio
dual o bimodo. e permitir  las comunicaciones tanto en modo celular GSM -utilizado por
compa¤¡as de telefon¡a m¢viles como Digitel, Infonet y Elca- como en Globalstar.

Am‚rica Latina cuenta con 3 estaciones en Brasil, 1 en Per£ y 1 en Argentina.

Pr¢ximamente, la compa¤¡a estima levantar alrededor de 38 estaciones, como la inaugurada en
Venezuela, en todo el mundo para finales de a¤o, las cuales cubrir n zonas puntuales de hasta
3.000 kil¢metros de di metro.

En promedio, se prev‚ que cada estaci¢n satelital terrestre conecte a los suscriptores en un  rea
de 2.000 kil¢metros a la redonda.
