RE "It does not bode well for the market that people are throwing money after stocks without knowing what products the company makes. This will end badly some day."

Boy, ain't that the truth! You should see what some of the people on the Cree and G&K thread think about CREE. Cree is a great company that makes SiC wafers and blue LED chips. But there are people over there who think the company is going to replace the light bulb, or that they make blue semi-conductor lasers, etc.

<<the conclusion that COHR is a major player in the fiber optics space >>

Robert, I never though of COHR as a player in the fiber optics space. Is this a rumor off the Yahoo message boards?

For fiber optic plays I would consider VECO. Their Ion Tech subsidiary could become more valuable than the rest of the company.

You are right about people not knowing why they are buying a given stock. Most of the CYMI posters can quote the last few quarters earnings, and the estimated earnings for next quarter, as well as the BTB ratio, and the outlook for the next few quarters. The bad news is that the uninformed investors could sink us all when they all head for the same exit.

Good Luck, Jerome

Folks,

Does anyone know the status of Cymer's 4KHz 193 nm laser?

TIA...Jeff

Bob,

Visudyne is made by QLT Phototherapeutics. NASDAQ:QLTI; TSE: QLT. It is co-marketed with the Ciba-Geigy division of Novartis. It is activated by a 698nm non heat generating laser light. COHR is only one of the suppliers of this particular laser. There are others. QLT is the only supplier of Visudyne.

Just in case some of this thread's readers wanted to know better. ;^)

Ian.

RE: People who don't know any better have come to the conclusion that COHR is a major player in the fiber optics space - bad assumption.
Visudyne and the related laser treatment is a real product which they should make money with though.

It does not bode well for the market that people are throwing money after stocks without knowing what products the company makes.
