Tony - the remark was in response to a question about how CPQ can continue to differentiate as they enable Intel based systems higher and higher in the enterprise. Capellas (focusing on Win2K since after all this was the Win2K launch) said that Intel's ideal world is one in which all the competitors have very similar machines based on Intel designs - it minimizes the support requirements and lets Intel innovate more rapidly. He indicated that in the future CPQ would increasingly depend on rapid development and reduced time to market combined with a more complete overall systems and solutions offering rather than differentiation at the hardware level, concentrating on manageability and functionality rather than differences in the base technology. I think this was a pragmatic acceptance of the value of working with Intel rather than competing in areas like infiniband...
